ECU Lands 2026 DB David Coleman Jr.

East Carolina continues to build momentum on the recruiting trail, this time landing a key piece for its 2026 defensive backfield. David Coleman Jr., a 6-foot, 165-pound defensive back from Camden County High School in Kingsland, Georgia, announced his commitment to the Pirates following an official visit to Greenville.

Coleman held offers from Florida State, Georgia Tech, LSU, USF, and West Virginia, among others, but ultimately saw a fit with ECU’s coaching staff, player development, and defensive scheme. His pledge adds to a growing list of defensive standouts in the 2026 class for head coach Blake Harrell and defensive coordinator Josh Aldridge.

On film, Coleman lines up all across Camden County’s secondary. He displays excellent instincts and fluid coverage ability, while also finishing plays with physicality and open-field tackling. He totaled 48 tackles, including two for loss, last season. He added one interception and two pass breakups, showing he can affect the game in both coverage and support.

Coleman is more than just a defender he’s a weapon in the return game. He returned one punt and two kickoffs for touchdowns, and also found the end zone on offense. His dynamic skill set gives ECU a versatile athlete who can contribute in multiple phases.

He’s currently projected to play safety for the Pirates, but his versatility could allow him to slide into a cornerback or nickel role depending on the team’s needs and his development.

With his decision, Coleman joins standout EDGE Terande Spencer and defensive tackle Kelton Smith in a defensive-heavy 2026 class. He plans to enroll early, with the goal of making an immediate impact once he steps on campus.
