ECU Snap Counts Reveal Depth in 38-0 Shutout Over Coastal

East Carolina put together its most dominant performance of the season Saturday night, blanking Coastal Carolina 38-0 in Conway. The shutout pushed the Pirates to 2-1 on the year and set up a massive home showdown with BYU this weekend. Lets take a look at the snap count.

Offense: 87 Total Snaps

  • QB: Katin Houser (74), Mike Wright Jr. (9), Raheim Jeter (4)

  • RB: Parker Jenkins (37), London Montgomery (30), DeJuan Lacy (10), TJ Engleman (9), Marlon Gunn Jr. (1)

  • WR: Anthony Smith (70), Yannick Smith (70), Brock Spalding (30), Payton Mangrum (22), Jaquaize Pettaway (16), Tyler Johnson (11), Kelan Robinson (9), Jyron Waiters (4), Malik Leverett (4)

  • TE: Jayvontay Conner (43), Desirrio Riles (38), Mason Brown (19), Miles Parker (10)

  • OL: McCrimon (78), Long (48), Bell (78), Poku (78), Trnavsky (13), Weaver (65), Tarpeh (9), Semaia (9), Williams (9), Askew (36), Walton (4), Neolien (10)

Notes:

  • This was the second straight week ECU got more than 30 offensive players involved. The blowout allowed plenty of backups to rotate in.

  • On the O-line, Cooper Trnavsky technically started at right tackle, but Bryce Weaver played the majority of snaps and graded out well again.

  • Parker Jenkins led the running backs again, while London Montgomery nearly matched him in workload. Gunn, surprisingly, logged just one snap. Is this a outlook for the future?

  • The staff leaned heavily on 12 personnel (one RB, two TEs), which cut down slot receiver usage but gave ECU more balance in run/pass looks.

Defense: 69 Total Snaps

  • DL/DE: Jasiyah Robinson (38), JD Lampley (40), Kieran Davis (27), Zion Wilson (33), Preston Carr (29), Rion Roseborough (21), Justin Benton (6), Javon Williams (5), Torin Brazell (5), Dominick Moody (1)

  • LBs: Samuel Dankah (36), Dameon Wilson (35), DJ Johnson (27), Jackson Barker (23), Jordan Miles (10), Noah Holmes (5), Ryheem Craig (29), Julien Davis (27), Kendrick DuJour (15)

  • Nickel/CBs: TyMir Brown (60), Jordy Lowery (17), Rasheed Reason (25), Chance Graves (22), Jonathan Jean (24), Kevon Merrell (26), Alex Moye (13), Josh Benton (6), Key Crowell (9), Derrion Horsley (2)

  • Safeties: Teagan Wilk (51), Ja’Marley Riddle (48), Ayden Duncanson (21), Kamaurri McKinley (20), Ladarian Paulk (3)

Notes:

  • TyMir Brown set a career-high with 60 snaps and graded out as ECU’s best cornerback in the game.

  • Rasheed Reason, who started the first two games, came off the bench but still logged 25 snaps and sealed the game with a late interception.

  • True freshman Derrion Horsley traveled for the first time and made his ECU debut.

  • Lampley was everywhere, starting at defensive tackle but moving across multiple spots on the line. ECU even lined him up alongside Robinson at times to maximize pass rush pressure. This was the best pass rush in the first three games with five sacks!

Final Takeaways

The snap counts tell the story of ECU’s depth — a theme that keeps emerging three weeks into the season. Harrell and his staff clearly trust their rotation, particularly along the defensive line and in the secondary. Offensively, Houser continues to be the anchor, but the staff is making sure younger guys like Jeter, Duncanson, and Horsley get meaningful reps.

That type of depth could be crucial with BYU rolling into Greenville this weekend.
