ECU Turns to Juan Soto to Lead Wide Receivers Under New Offensive Staff
East Carolina has moved swiftly to solidify its offensive staff, officially adding Juan Soto as the program’s next wide receivers coach.
The hire comes less than a day after former ECU receivers coach Dyrell Roberts accepted the same position at Wake Forest, leaving a vacancy that the Pirates quickly filled by reuniting Soto with new offensive coordinator Jordan Davis.
Soto joins ECU from North Texas Mean Green, where he spent the past two seasons working closely with Davis while helping oversee one of the most productive passing attacks in the nation. During North Texas’ 12-2 campaign, the Mean Green averaged 45.1 points and 512.4 yards per game, ranking among the FBS leaders in nearly every major offensive category.
That success was driven in large part by an explosive receiver room. Wyatt Young headlined the group with 70 receptions for 1,264 yards and 10 touchdowns, while Cameron Dorner added 56 catches for 911 yards and eight scores. Slot receiver Miles Coleman finished with 47 receptions for 550 yards, and Landon Sides contributed 34 grabs for 449 yards.
Soto worked as Davis’ primary assistant during that stretch, playing a key role in player development, game planning, and recruiting. His familiarity with Davis’ system made him an obvious fit as ECU transitions into a new offensive era.
Before his time at North Texas, Davis served as the passing game coordinator and recruiting coordinator at Wagner Seahawks in 2023. He held quality control and wide receivers responsibilities at Yale Bulldogs in 2022.
Soto’s coaching journey began at Hialeah Senior High School in Florida in 2017, where he coached quarterbacks. He later returned to Ventura College, where he played during the 2013 and 2014 seasons, as recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach from 2018–19.
Originally from Miami, Soto now steps into an expansive receiver room at ECU that will change offseason roster moves. His recent success developing high-output receiving corps makes him a critical piece as the Pirates look to maintain offensive momentum under Davis.
With the receiver’s coach position now filled, ECU continues to round out a reshaped staff heading into the 2026 season.
