Trey Burke Opens Up on ECU Commitment and His Vision for the Future

East Carolina’s new 2026 quarterback commit Trey Burke is still under the radar nationally, but it didn’t take long for the ECU coaching staff to buy into his potential. The Spartanburg (S.C.) native recently spoke with The Pirate Pulse about his decision, what stood out about the Pirates, and what he hopes to bring to Greenville.

Burke said it was ECU’s staff personality that made the biggest impression. “How young, energetic, and authentic they were,” Burke said. That early connection began with a unique recruiting opportunity. “Our school does this county day where all the high schools nearby come to our school to do a showcase for college coaches,” Burke explained. “It was there where ECU saw me and [offensive coordinator] JDB came to see me practice a week later to then offer me and invite me to an OV.”

Despite having only one reported FCS offer before ECU came calling, Burke never wavered in his confidence. His vision for his time in purple and gold is clear: “I envision myself eventually becoming the guy here for the Pirates. Also to just set a new foundation for my life and give all glory to God, and shed light through my actions to glorify Jesus.”

As far as football goes, Burke is fired up about fitting into John David Baker’s system. “I’m very excited,” he said. “Coach JDB runs a similar offense like my high school does, so I feel that I have a better chance to hit the ground running in his new offense.”

Finally, he had a message for Pirate Nation:
“Y’all are awesome! I can’t wait to enroll at ECU. Go Pirates!!🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️”
