East Carolina’s recruiting momentum up front continues to roll. The Pirates have secured a commitment from junior college offensive tackle Bryson Esser, one of the top JUCO linemen in the 2026 class.
The 6-foot-8, 295-pound Esser took an official visit to Greenville in mid-October for ECU’s Thursday night win over Tulsa, a trip that clearly made a strong impression. Less than a month later, the Denver, North Carolina native made it official, choosing the Pirates over offers from Arkansas State, Charlotte, FAU, Fresno State, North Texas, Southern Miss, Texas State, and Western Michigan.
Esser’s journey to ECU has been a steady climb. The former North Lincoln High School standout began his college career at Richmond, redshirting in 2023 before transferring to Garden City Community College. Now playing right tackle for the Broncbusters, Esser has worked to add nearly 20 pounds since his high school days, developing into a more physical presence in the trenches.
The Pirates, led by offensive line coach Matt Mattox, were the first FBS program to extend an offer to Esser back on October 6. His blend of length, footwork, and athleticism stood out immediately on film. ECU’s staff believes his frame and mobility make him an ideal fit for their system, and with continued development in the weight room, his ceiling is high.
Garden City currently holds a 5-3 record, with its next game set for Saturday, November 8, at Highland Community College. ECU has also been actively recruiting Steven Moore, another Garden City lineman who joined Esser on his visit to Greenville.
Esser’s commitment gives East Carolina five offensive linemen pledged in the 2026 class, including four high school recruits and one JUCO addition, another major step toward building long-term stability in the trenches under Blake Harrell.
