According to a report from Stephen Igoe of 247Sports, East Carolina football players J.D. Lampley, Preston Carr, and Brock Spalding have been fully reinstated to the program after serving offseason suspensions.

Igoe reported that sources confirmed the charges against all three players have been dropped. The case stemmed from a July 20 arrest by the Greenville Police Department after a firearm was discharged within city limits.

Head coach Blake Harrell told Igoe the three Pirates are back in full standing.

"The players have been reinstated to all team activities," Harrell said. "They've gone through and have completed the processes we've asked them to and have learned how painful some lessons can be to learn from. We've welcomed them back and are ready to move forward as a team."

The reinstatement provides ECU with added depth across multiple position groups as the Pirates gear up for their season opener at NC State on August 28.

Lampley and Carr are both expected to factor heavily into the defensive front. Lampley, a senior defensive end, has appeared in 36 career games, recording 54 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss and six sacks. Pro Football Focus credited him with leading the Pirates in quarterback pressures last season. He’s been competing with fellow senior Jasiyah Robinson and redshirt sophomore Kieran Davis for a starting spot on the edge.

Carr, a 6-foot-3, 295-pound defensive tackle, began his career at Navy before transferring to ECU. Now a redshirt junior, he saw action in two games last year and had a strong offseason before the suspension. He’s expected to push for a spot in the two-deep rotation on the interior defensive line.

Spalding, a redshirt junior receiver, has contributed as both a pass-catcher and punt returner during his Pirate career. The Lorton, Va. native has 20 games and three starts under his belt, with nine receptions for 101 yards and seven punt returns for 51 yards. He remains part of ECU’s receiver rotation heading into the fall.
