Q&A: Jeremiah Roux on Why He Chose ECU, Playing for Coach Harrell, and Bringing the Energy to Pirate Nation
East Carolina’s 2026 recruiting class continues to take shape, and one of the headliners on the defensive side is Jeremiah Roux, a hard-hitting, high-motor linebacker out of Mundy’s Mill High School in Georgia.
Roux committed to the Pirates in late June following official visits to ECU and South Florida. Now, the three-star defender is opening up to The Pirate Pulse about what led to his decision, his goals in Greenville, and what Pirate Nation can expect from the versatile playmaker.
Q: What stood out the most with ECU above everyone else?
Roux: "What stood out about ECU the most was the energy and the staff made me actually made me feel more like a player already than a recruit."
That early connection with the coaching staff made a lasting impression on Roux, who quickly felt like more than just another name on the board. The genuine investment in him as a future Pirate helped seal the deal.
Q: What do you envision for your time here in Greenville?
Roux: "I envision my time at Greenville to be amazing and a new home — somewhere I can grow not just as a player but a person in general."
It’s clear Roux is thinking beyond football. The chance to develop both on and off the field is what he values most in his next chapter, and ECU checked those boxes.
Q: How excited are you to play under Coach Harrell and company?
Roux: "I’m extremely excited to play under Coach Harrell and the rest of the staff, I love the way they have been handling the team and the program since they have been there!"
Roux will get the opportunity to play under head coach Blake Harrell, a former defensive coordinator himself, and sees that leadership as a key reason why ECU is trending in the right direction. He’s all in on the vision Harrell and his staff are building.
Q: What’s your message to Pirate Nation?
Roux: "My message to Pirate Nation is y’all getting more than a dawg from me, more than a player but a great person to be around — a real energy guy!"
Roux’s confidence, charisma, and leadership already stand out and he hasn’t even arrived on campus yet. With his motor on the field and his energy off it, Pirate Nation may be getting one of the emotional leaders of the 2026 class.
