When you look at ECU football’s 2025 roster, one thing is clear the Pirates are building close to home. With more than 110 players on the roster, the bulk of ECU’s talent still comes from North Carolina and the surrounding Southeast. That’s not by accident. Blake Harrell and his staff have doubled down on in-state ties and regional trust and it’s paying off.
Here’s a full breakdown of where ECU’s roster is from and which hometowns and high schools are feeding Pirate Nation.
North Carolina Leads the Way
No surprise here. 37 Pirates call North Carolina home, making it the most represented state on the roster by far. ECU continues to thrive off in-state talent, particularly from the 252 and 910.
Some of the key NC names include:
Bryce Weaver – OL – Greenville (D.H. Conley)
TyMir Brown – DB – Jacksonville (Jacksonville HS)
Alex Moye – DB – Farmville (Farmville Central)
From Pitt County to Charlotte and everywhere in between, ECU has clearly made North Carolina a recruiting priority and it shows.
Georgia Is Loaded
ECU has pulled heavily from Georgia in recent years, and that trend continues with 15 players from the Peach State.
Julien Davis – LB – McDonough (Union Grove)
Kevon Merrell – LB – Cordele ( Crisp County)
Durante Speer – DB – Decatur (Columbia
Florida, South Carolina, and Virginia Bring Depth
The Pirates also have strong ties to the rest of the Southeast:
South Carolina – 10 players
Florida – 8 players
Virginia – 7 players
High School Hotbeds
Here’s a look at the high schools that have produced multiple current Pirates:
Jacksonville HS (Jacksonville, NC): TyMir Brown, Damari Gantt, Miles Parker
D.H. Conley (Greenville, NC): Bryce Weaver and Panda Askew
Farmville Central (Farmville, NC): Alex Moye
Fuquay-Varina (NC): Jackson Barker and Miles Gaddy
The 2025 ECU roster is local-first and southern-built just the way Pirate fans like it. With a strong core from North Carolina and surrounding states, plus a few national and international additions, ECU is sticking to what works: recruiting hard in familiar territory and building a roster that reflects the toughness and pride of Pirate Nation.
It’s not flashy. It’s not complicated. It’s East Carolina football.
