Liberty Transfer Joseph Webb Commits to ECU

The first domino of ECU’s transfer portal offseason has officially fallen.

Right-handed pitcher Joseph Webb, who spent the 2025 season at Liberty, has committed to East Carolina and will join the Pirates for the 2026 campaign. The 6-foot-1, 215-pounder visited Greenville on Tuesday and didn’t take long to lock in his decision.

A Lawndale, N.C. native and Burns High School product, Webb previously pitched at Catawba Valley Community College, where he overlapped with current Pirate reliever and projected MLB Draft pick Ethan Young. That connection along with an opening for experienced arms made ECU an ideal fit.

Webb was a steady presence for the Flames in 2025, making 18 appearances, including one start. He wrapped up the season with a 4-2 record, a 3.50 ERA, and 51 strikeouts over 46.1 innings of work. He gave up just 28 hits and allowed only one home run all year. A long-relief weapon more often than not, Webb went three-plus innings in eight of his outings, including a season-high 5.2 frames against New Mexico State in March.

His pitch mix includes a four-seam and two-seam fastball in the low 90s, along with a splitter and a sharp knuckle curve. That combination allows him to miss barrels, work deep into outings, and attack hitters from both sides of the plate.

Webb is expected to begin his time in Greenville out of the bullpen, where he’ll likely serve in a high-leverage role. With Bradd Pruett (Georgia) and Lance Williams (Maryland) transferring out, and veteran Jake Hunter graduating, the Pirates are in the market for experience and Webb brings exactly that.

More arms are expected to follow, but this is a strong first step toward rebuilding ECU’s depth on the mound for 2026.
