East Carolina kicks off American Conference play on Thursday night, hosting defending league champion Army under the lights at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium. The Pirates (2-2) are looking to bounce back from a 34-13 loss to BYU, while the Black Knights (1-2) arrive in Greenville with their bruising option attack and championship pedigree.

This is a huge early-season test for Blake Harrell’s squad. Can ECU’s defense hold up against Army’s relentless ground game? Can the Pirates clean up mistakes on offense and start fast in front of a home crowd that’s expected to bring the energy once again?

Here’s how the Pirate Pulse team sees it playing out:

Trey Scott
Prediction: ECU 28, Army 13
“Pirate bounce back! This team is too good to let the season slip away. I see the offense coming out and driving the victory. No doubt the defense is gonna come to play but the QB/WR room left a lot on the field last week. I think this will be the get back game.”

Adam Johnson
Prediction: ECU 33, Army 24
“I think we are the best run defense Army has faced. I think we come out hungry and prove that our season can still be a successful one. I like the good guys tonight — they’ve lost too many pieces and I think Harrell has the guys ready for the triple option.”

Chance Scott
Prediction: ECU 32, Army 28
“This one is all about starting fast. Katin Houser and the offense need to set the tone early and put pressure on Army to play from behind, something they aren’t built for. I think the offensive line answers the call, the passing game finds rhythm, and the Pirates edge it out in a close one under the lights.”
